Do I need a macerator pump station?

A macerator pump station is a convenient way to remove sewage from your property, when gravity can’t be relied upon to do the job. They are particularly useful when sewage is generated below the main sewer line (i.e. in the basement) or when connecting to the main sewer line is difficult.

First, the macerator pump system grinds the sewage into a slurry or liquid – reducing the chances of a blockage. The pump then kicks into action, forcing the sewage uphill and/or horizontally towards the main sewer line. Some units also come fitted with a float switch, allowing them to work automatically and without human intervention.
